Hi Loves!
I just returned from a wonderful vacation with my family. Here is a photo from the beautiful beach, where we felt so serene, present, and at peace! I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to spend some quality time with my family. We laughed, we relaxed, we indulged, we played...it was PERFECT!
If you haven't already noticed, She Lives Inspired unplugged from social networking for a week. Though I deeply enjoy connecting with each and every one of you everyday, I needed quality time to rest and renew...and that meant I had to make a conscious, internalized decision: BE PRESENT & DISCONNECT.
Well, it sure worked! This morning I was so READY to return to work! My family, however, was dreading the thought of coming home. They had the "Vacation Blues," but I was excited to come home! Which really got me thinking: Do I not know how to shut my mind off? Can I really enjoy vacations? Do I really need to feel connected at every single minute of the day?
It's not that I didn't enjoy our trip, I just felt that a few days was sufficient time to recharge my batteries. It really got me thinking about how we choose to spend our "time off." I found this quote, which really resonated with me:
"I do not really like vacations. I much prefer an occasional day off when I do not feel like working. When I am confronted with a whole week in which I have nothing to do but enjoy myself I do not know where to begin. To me, enjoyment comes fleetingly and unheralded; I cannot determinedly enjoy myself for a whole week at a time." ~ Robertson Davies
For me, it's all about holistic wellness, which means daily habits of moderation in mind, body, and spirit. I need to take a break regularly. Obviously we can't take a vacation everyday, but if given the opportunity to take time "off" from our work, I'd prefer to take a day here and there! Stepping away from my desk keeps me grounded, grateful, and connected.
So, how do YOU choose to spend your time off?
